Engineering Technology Program

Building the Backbone of Rural Healthcare.

The Need

High-quality healthcare requires modern capabilities.

Medical equipment, reliable electricity, buildings, and complex supply logistics are all vital to making healthcare possible in the jungles.

Our Approach

A 3-year technical program creating expert problem-solvers.

The 3-year Engineering Technology program equips Karen students with practical skills in electricity, construction, equipment repair, and project management.

The Result

Successful healthcare delivery in resource-limited jungles.

Graduates serve at least three years in remote clinics under the Karen Department of Health and Welfare, ensuring hospitals and surgical units can function and grow.

Curriculum and Training

Year 1: Foundations

Basic electrical systems, English, computers, mathematics, mechanical principles, auto repair, and safety protocols.

Year 2: Construction & Special Projects

Building construction, project management, power generation, and engine rebuilds.

Year 3: Clinic Rotations & Leadership

Internships at remote clinics where students maintain surgical equipment, troubleshoot power outages, repair vehicles, and lead infrastructure projects.

“The field of engineering is full of problems that need solving, and those who persist will be the ones to bring meaningful change. If students learn to take initiative here, they will be ready to face challenges back home without fear or discouragement.”

Engineering Student Story

“Growing up in the mountains, life was simple, and we focused on daily survival. In middle school, I aspired to become a healthcare practitioner because of my childhood experiences with illness. However, education in my community was limited. We don’t have options to choose what we want to become.

I joined the engineering program at Earth Mission because I want to help my people to develop the community we live in. Engineering technicians play a vital role in supporting healthcare, particularly in ensuring the power systems for medical equipment. Reflecting on this journey, I am grateful to contribute to healthcare.”
