Gilgit Eye Hospital

Located in the mountainous Northern Areas of Pakistan, the Gilgit Eye Hospital (GEH) celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2005. Dedicated to providing quality ophthalmological care that is affordable to people of the Northern Areas, GEH has focused on treating the causes of avoidable blindness. The hospital is equipped with modern medical equipment including a Zeiss Omni S4 microscope with teaching head and an 810 diode laser. Two physicians are on staff who treat eye conditions ranging from cataracts and trachoma to severe eye injuries. With the support of many individuals and several charitable organizations, GEH has been able to provide some of the latest technology for people in a very remote area of the world.

In 2005, the hospital completed a building project that expanded the waiting room and added a dining room and new kitchen. In this year, 5,625 patients were seen and 559 eye surgeries were performed.

The hospital is making a tremendous impact on the Northern Areas, helping reduce the incidence of blindness and improving peoples' standard of living by improving their sight.

Earth Mission helps support the Gilgit Eye Hospital and accepts tax-deductible donations to benefit the hospital.
