Gilgit Blind Training School

The Gilgit Blind Training School (GBTS) is a leader in the community of the Northern Areas, Pakistan. Subjects taught are English, Urdu, Math Science, Social Studies, and Islamyat. The school also teaches various life skills to help integrate people with vision problems back into the community. Some of these skills include cooking and agriculture.

The GBTS works in conjunction with the Gilgit Eye Hospital to provide total care. The school is situated at the same site. At the beginning of 2006, three teachers staff the school of 13 students. The building addition on the grounds of the Gilgit Eye Hospital that was completed in 2005, provided more classrooms, a kitchen, and a office for the Gilgit Blind Training School

In addition to the school, the director of the GBTS works with mothers of small blind children in the community as well as with volunteers and teachers at the first special education school in Gilgit, the Mehnaz Fatima Special Education Centre. This community based program has been established to try to keep some children at home in the local schools and to address the needs of babies and small children with visual or multiple disabilities.

Earth Mission supports the Gilgit Blind Training School and accepts tax-deductible donations to benefit the school.
